1. Drive the Scenic Gatlinburg Bypass
A romantic drive along the Gatlinburg Bypass in one of my favorite things to do. The scenic overlook on the By-Pass gives you great views of the Smokies! Winter offers extra magic of snow-covered mountains. If you plan a trip at sunset, you’ll be able to see the lights of the Town of Gatlinburg below.
Please note that it will be cold. Bring along a thermos of hot cocoa and rechargeable hand warmers if you have them.
The By-Pass connects US 441 with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It allows you to skip any downtown traffic.
A parking tag is required when parking longer that 15 minutes anywhere in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I don’t like it but the park doesn’t have an entrance fee. These can be purchased at Recreation.gov or at several locations in the area. Get the full scoop at the national park website.
2. Stay at a Romantic Hotel
While cabins are a popular choice, Gatlinburg has romantic hotels right on the Parkway. The Greystone Lodge on the River (559 Parkway) and Margaritaville Resort (539 Parkway) are two options, that offer comfort, luxury, and easy access to local attractions. Enjoy amenities like fireplaces, private balconies, and spa tubs to enhance your romantic getaway.
3. Visit the Gatlinburg Space Needle
For a unique perspective, take a ride up the glass elevators of the Gatlinburg Space Needle. This iconic attraction offers spectacular views of the Smoky Mountains and downtown Gatlinburg. Visit at night to see the twinkling lights of the city or during the day for stunning mountain scenery.
4. Stroll Across the Gatlinburg SkyBridge
Bundle up and walk hand-in-hand across the Gatlinburg SkyBridge. With stunning views and its famous glass-bottom section, this is a fun and memorable experience for couples. I always wear my heated vest when I take a winter trip to Gatlinburg. It’s invaluable for activities like the SkyBridge.
5. Share a Romantic Dinner
“Run Forrest, Run” stop in for a fun dinner at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. It’s at 900 Parkway in downtown Gatlinburg . If you prefer a candlelit dinner, look no further than The Greenbrier or Cherokee Grill. Both restaurants offer delicious menus and intimate atmospheres, perfect for celebrating love.
6. Ripley’s Aquarium
Looking to get in from the cold? Ripley’s Aquarium (88 River Road) is a good place to do just that. Stroll hand-in-hand as you see the tanks and exhibits. It’s one of my favorite things to do in Gatlinburg. They have extra activities like glass bottom boats, Sip and Sleep overnight in the Aquarium and even proposal packages!
This Valentine’s Day, let Gatlinburg’s charm and natural beauty set the stage for a romantic celebration!
